Managing mistakes and setbacks
Mindfulness and present-moment awareness

Managing expectations and performance demands
Athlete identity and personal development
The goal is to develop skills that athletes can practice in the present moment in practice, sport, or in life—not simply talk about.

Mental toughness
Confidence
Emotional regulation
Mindfulness
Handling adversity
Responding to mistakes
Resilience

Performance Consultation
CIMA offers consultation for individuals and members of an athlete's support system who want to better understand the psychological side of performance. Consultation may be appropriate for:
Coaches
Parents/Guardians
Athletic programs
Teams
Schools
Organizations
Other professionals supporting athletes
Consultations may focus on understanding an athlete's psychological needs, identifying opportunities for mental skills development, or discussing ways to create an environment that supports confidence, resilience, motivation, and healthy performance.
Coach Consultation
Coaches have a significant influence on the psychological environment in which athletes develop. CIMA can collaborate with coaches to discuss practical approaches to areas such as:
Building athlete confidence
Effective communication
Responding to mistakes
Managing pressure
Developing mentally resilient athletes
Motivation and accountability
Team culture
Pre-competition preparation
Supporting athletes through adversity
Incorporating mental skills into already established programs
The intention is not to interfere with coaching or replace existing support systems already in place. Instead, consultation can provide an additional psychological perspective that complements the coach's expertise and existing training environment in conjunction with one’s coaching style.
Parent & Family Consultation
Parents and families can play an important role in an athlete's development, but knowing how to support an athlete psychologically can sometimes be difficult. Consultation may help parents better understand topics such as:
Supporting confidence without creating additional pressure
Responding to mistakes and disappointing performances
Communicating effectively with athletes
Navigating performance expectations
Supporting motivation
Helping athletes manage competition-related stress
Balancing athletic development with life outside of sport
Understanding the difference between supporting and over-directing an athlete
The goal is to help parents become a supportive part of the athlete's development rather than another source of performance pressure.
Workshops & Educational Presentations
CIMA can provide workshops and educational presentations for athletic programs, schools, coaches, and organizations interested in learning more about the psychology of performance, sports psychology or counseling. Workshops are designed to translate psychological concepts into practical strategies participants can immediately begin practicing.
CIMA Mental Performance & Counseling Services currently focuses primarily on mental performance and sport psychology education, individualized mental performance support, and consultation. Counseling services will be incorporated as the practice develops within the appropriate professional and regulatory scope of practice; Counseling Services - in development.
