Weekly Mental Tips For Idaho Athletes

Each week, I’ll be creating a flyer with mental performance tips—published every Friday—designed to provide practical sports psychology skills that Idaho athletes, regardless of sport, can apply in practices, competitions, and everyday life.

The purpose of this series is not to make athletes think harder about their performance or overanalyze every mistake. Instead, the goal is to introduce simple, practical psychological tools athletes can use when pressure, mistakes, setbacks, nerves, or adversity inevitably arise in their sport. While I aim to keep these tips applicable across all sports, there will be times when I focus exclusively on one sport for a period of time.

Each week will highlight a specific mental performance concept and offer athletes a skill or strategy they can immediately practice, along with thought‑provoking questions to encourage self‑awareness and reflection. The intention is to help athletes better understand how their thoughts, emotions, attention, and behaviors influence the way they approach competition and everyday challenges

Most importantly, these resources are designed to support the whole athlete—not just the performer. The same skills used to manage pressure on the field or court can also be valuable in the classroom, relationships, leadership, careers, and other areas of life.

I hope these weekly resources serve as a useful educational tool for athletes, coaches, teams, and athletic communities throughout the great state of Idaho. Idaho is my home, and I want to contribute to the communities and athletic programs that have played an important role in shaping me.

Idaho high school coaches and athletes are welcome to share these resources with their teams, teammates, and athletic communities.

These materials are intended for educational purposes and practical skill development, not as a replacement for individualized mental health care, including counseling, sports psychology services, or treatment plans of any kind.
