Why CIMA Exists
CIMA represents the dedication and intersection of my current educational and professional backgrounds in clinical mental health counseling and sport and performance psychology, along with future goals and aspirations for clinical psychology and prescribing medication.
The Meaning Behind CIMA
CIMA is more than a name. It represents the philosophy behind the practice and the direction I hope to take throughout my professional journey to help Idaho residents.
The name was chosen to represent having a growth mindset, elevation, the changing of perspective with elevation, the journey to the summit, and reaching toward one's potential.
Cima is an Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish word meaning “Summit,” “Peak,” or “Highest point.”
For me, the summit is not the final destination, but rather a metaphor for the ongoing process of growth and self-fulfillment, where discovery of one's character is revealed.
The Summit Is the Journey and Experience Itself
In athletics, the summit might look like winning a championship, reaching a personal record, or achieving a long-lasting goal that once seemed impossible from the first step. Growth occurs during the climb up the mountain with the early morning practices, the long off-season training, the difficult setbacks, the mistakes, the moments of doubt, and the moments of despair that lead to intentional decisions to continue regardless of whether the summit is visible. Those are the moments when a person realizes, and where character is revealed, that the person they are becoming along with the journey is just as valuable as the destination they are pursuing.
This idea is central to CIMA. The summit represents the direction. The climb represents the work.
The Philosophy Behind CIMA
The name reflects several principles that guide the practice.
Growth - There is always an opportunity to learn by embracing challenges and learning from mistakes.
Perspective - You only know what you know. Our understanding and perception are limited by our experiences and beliefs, which can be changed based on our viewpoint and position within the mountain and how far we have come.
Resilience - The conscious, intentional decision to keep moving forward one step at a time up the mountain regardless of challenges faced.
Purpose - The final destination matters, but so does understanding why we're pursuing it in the first place.
Potential - Understanding your abilities with confidence to develop into your future self.
Process - Development occurs with repeated actions alongside reflection, adaptation, and execution.
